P-E-M Cheer Teams State Champions February 5
On Saturday, the P-E-M Varsity, and JV cheer teams competed at the MCCA State cheerleading competition in the Roy Wilkins Auditorium at the Excel-Energy Center in St Paul. From the singing of the National Anthem, to the end of the awards, it was clear that P-E-M Cheer had made their presence known.
The session began with the singing of the National Anthem by varsity members Elizabeth Schmidt, and Holly Stamschror. P-E-M JV competed in the middle school division; the varsity competed in the division II large/super large division. A large base of P-E-M fans was on hand and also made their presence felt during the routines. The Varsity and JV team both took first place in their division as State Champions! Both teams won their divisions by more than 30 points.
The day was not over however for the varsity, the P-E-M girls basketball cheerleaders were awarded the 2010 RAH (Regional Academic Honors) for the SE Region with a combined team GPA of 3.84. Accepting the award were members of the girls basketball cheerleaders: Nikki Goergen, Jamie Kappauf, Liz Cowen, Erin Toogood, and Addie Stoltz. Then the 2010 MCCA Honor Team of Excellence was announced, there was a total of 39 girls' state-wide that were nominated. Three P-E-M seniors; Megan Norton, Emily Reidemann, and Katie Kappauf were nominated and recognized for their leadership skills and academic excellence with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Megan Norton was one of five cheerleaders state-wide, selected to receive a $1000 scholarship.
Varsity coach, Sharon Tice said " The girls have worked very hard this year, their routine today was one of their best efforts this season", coach Tice added, " we had to deal with some illnesses earlier in the season, then we had several injures to overcome, but the girls never gave up, they worked as a team and finished the season strong!" The P-E-M JV team is coached by Lyndsay and Josh Busby, the varsity is coached by Sharon and Bill Tice.

PEM Announces Need for Budget Reductions Posted January 31
At a special board meeting on January 25th, the PEM School Board directed the administration to develop a list of budget reductions totaling between $450,000 and $500,000 for the 2010-11 school year. With a budget of $12,000,000, that is about 4% of the total budget.
A year ago, we reduced our expenditures for the 2009-10 school year by $887,500, but as we continue to face economic difficulties, we need to reduce our budget again.
Once again this year, we are asking for your ideas relating to budget reductions. Last year, we received 424 suggestions for reducing our budget. We implemented many of them, and still have all of the ideas on file. We will be using those ideas again in our process this year.
If you have a new idea that is not already on the list, please contact me at school via phone, letter, in person, e-mail, or our website. The e-mail address is , and our website is www.pem.k12.mn.us. If you submit via e-mail, expect confirmation within 24 hours that we received your suggestion. If you don't, please call us at 534-3651 so we get your thoughts. While all ideas may not ultimately be recommended or implemented, the school district values your input on these very important decisions.
All new suggestions need to be submitted by Wednesday, February 10th. After that date, school administration will develop a list of recommendations with priorities that will be presented to the school board at a special meeting in March, open to the public, at a date yet to be determined.
Gary Kuphal, Superintendent 534-3651
